What Is Ultherapy? Non-Surgical Skin Lifting in Katy, TX | Le Chloé MedSpa

What Is Ultherapy? The Non-Surgical Lift Explained
There's a gap that shows up for a lot of people somewhere in their late thirties or forties. Skincare is dialed in. Injectables are handling the lines. But the jawline is a little softer than it used to be, the brow sits a touch lower, and the skin under the chin has lost some of its snap. It isn't dramatic enough for surgery — and no cream is going to fix it.
That gap is exactly what Ultherapy was built for.
What Is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is a non-invasive skin lifting treatment that uses micro-focused ultrasound to stimulate collagen production deep beneath the surface of the skin. It's FDA-cleared to lift skin on the brow, under the chin, and on the neck, and to improve lines and wrinkles on the décolletage.
What sets it apart from nearly every other device on the market is the imaging. Ultherapy is the only ultrasound lifting treatment that lets your provider actually see the layers of tissue being targeted in real time, on a screen, before any energy is delivered. That means the treatment is placed where it will do the most good rather than estimated from the surface.
There are no incisions, no injections, and no recovery period. Most people walk out and go back to their day.
How Ultherapy Works
Ultrasound energy is delivered in tiny, precisely focused points at three different depths beneath the skin: roughly 1.5mm, 3.0mm, and 4.5mm.
That deepest layer is the interesting one. At 4.5mm, the energy reaches the SMAS — the same foundational layer of connective tissue that a surgeon tightens during a facelift. Ultherapy doesn't cut or reposition it, but it does heat it enough to trigger a repair response.
Here's what happens next:
Focused ultrasound raises the temperature at each treatment point, creating small zones of controlled thermal effect deep in the tissue
The surrounding skin, and the surface of the skin, are left completely intact
Those treatment points signal the body to produce new collagen and elastin — a process called neocollagenesis
Over the following weeks and months, that fresh collagen gradually firms and lifts the treated area
This is the part people most often misunderstand. Ultherapy doesn't tighten your skin. It prompts your skin to tighten itself. The result is why it looks so natural — and also why it takes some patience.
What Ultherapy Treats
The most common areas we treat:
Brow lift — subtly raising a heavy or lowered brow and opening up the eye area
Under the chin — firming submental laxity and softening the appearance of a double chin
Neck — tightening loose skin and improving definition along the jawline
Décolletage — smoothing the fine crepey lines that show up on the chest
Ultherapy is often paired with injectables rather than used instead of them. Neurotoxins soften movement, fillers restore volume, and Ultherapy addresses the structural laxity underneath. They solve genuinely different problems.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Consultation first. Your provider assesses your skin laxity and confirms Ultherapy is the right approach. If it isn't, we'll tell you.
Comfort prep. Many patients take an over-the-counter pain reliever beforehand, and topical numbing is available. Let us know your comfort preferences ahead of time.
Imaging. Ultrasound gel is applied and your provider uses the built-in imaging to map the tissue layers.
Treatment. The applicator delivers energy in a series of lines across the treatment area. Most people describe brief heat or a prickling sensation deep under the skin — a sign the energy is reaching the right depth.
Timing. Expect 30 to 45 minutes for the chin and neck, and up to 90 minutes for a full face and neck.
Aftercare. There is no required downtime. You can wear makeup, work out, and go back to normal immediately.
Some flushing, mild swelling, tingling, or tenderness to the touch is normal and typically settles within a few days.
The Results Timeline
Ultherapy is not an instant-gratification treatment, and any provider who tells you otherwise is overselling it.
Weeks 1–4: Little to no visible change. Collagen production is underway beneath the surface.
Months 2–3: Lifting and firming become noticeably visible.
Month 6: Full results. This is the point of comparison for your before photos.
Beyond: Results typically hold for about a year. Because your skin continues to age naturally, most patients schedule an annual maintenance treatment.
Take before photos. Six months is long enough that gradual improvement is easy to miss in the mirror.
Who's a Good Candidate?
Ultherapy works best for mild to moderate skin laxity — people who notice their skin isn't as firm as it once was, but who aren't ready for or interested in surgery. That's frequently patients in their thirties through fifties, though candidacy has far more to do with skin quality than age.
It is not a facelift substitute. If there's significant sagging or a lot of loose tissue, Ultherapy will produce a modest improvement at best, and a surgical consultation is the more honest recommendation. A real consultation should sort that out before you spend a dollar.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Ultherapy hurt? There is discomfort during treatment — most people describe brief heat or prickling deep beneath the skin as energy is delivered. It's temporary and ends when the treatment does. Pre-treatment pain relievers and topical numbing make it very manageable, and comfort settings can be adjusted throughout.
How long does Ultherapy last? Results typically last around a year. Your skin keeps aging, so annual maintenance treatments help sustain the effect over time.
Is Ultherapy better than a facelift? They're not competitors. A facelift removes and repositions tissue for dramatic, long-lasting change with real surgery and real recovery. Ultherapy delivers a subtler lift with no downtime. The right answer depends on how much laxity you have and what kind of change you want.
Can I combine Ultherapy with Botox or fillers? Yes, and it's common. Ultherapy addresses deep structural laxity while neurotoxins and fillers handle movement lines and volume loss. Your provider will sequence them appropriately.
How soon can I go back to work? Immediately. There's no downtime with Ultherapy. Any mild redness usually fades within a few hours and can be covered with makeup right away.
